I believe that dreams are the original religion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I do not mean Freudian dreams, or any dreams involving people and places you know. Those are the bottommost layer of the dreaming world. This blog is about the other layers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why do I call it a religion? First, it involves a supernatural world \u2014 one in which magical events occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I read descriptions of primordial religions, I recognise themes from my own dreams. I cannot help but imagine that my ancestors were similarly inspired. I live in a time in which dreams are discounted, but this was certainly not the case for them. They had similar experiences and founded religions; I wrote an internet blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Secondly, there is a kind of “spirituality” that recognises and deals with what is magical in the dreaming world. In short, I would describe it as mental health practices. One cannot get far in the dreaming world with hang-ups and triggers, prejudices and fears. These must need be worked through, in order to get to the other side. Everything that seems crazy in the dreaming world is a reflection of one’s low-grade craziness. Recognising your reflection is the spiritual part of the enterprise. You can break out of that craziness and experience the dreaming world as quite consistent and persistent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
