Dreaming as a Religion
I believe that dreams are the original religion.
I do not mean Freudian dreams, or any dreams involving people and places you know. Those are the bottommost layer of the dreaming world. This blog is about the other layers.
Why do I call it a religion? First, it involves a supernatural world — one in which magical events occur. My ancestors had similar experiences and founded religions; it is a consequent of history that I live in a time in which the only imaginable response is an internet blog.
Secondly, there is a kind of “spirituality” that recognises and deals with what is magical in the dreaming world. In short, I would describe it as mental health practices. One cannot get far in the dreaming world with hang-ups and triggers, prejudices and fears. These must need be worked through, in order to get to the other side. Everything that seems crazy in the dreaming world is a reflection of one’s own low-grade craziness. Recognising your reflection is the spiritual part of the enterprise. You can break out of that craziness and experience the dreaming world as quite consistent and persistent.
